Dear friends,

When you arrive Leidy Dayan (cell and WhatsApp +39 342.169.8347) will meet you in the Piazza G. Marconi on the church steps conveniently located in front of the apartment. She will accompany you into the apartment (#17), show you a few things about the apartment, and give you keys.

Leidy is a Venezuelan friend who lives in Nettuno and takes care of the apartment for us.

Your AirBnB review is of great significance. We hope you will leave a glowing review and share with us privately any suggestions you might have.

If any problems arise─you should contact Leidy and/or me. My cell (WhatsApp): USA +(904) 808 2717. My email: jomcintire@bellsouth.net

Getting to Nettuno:

Trains and shuttle busses depart from Rome's "Fiumicino" International Airport that go straight into the Rome central train station (Termini). The bus is less expensive than the train.

There is also a bus service from the Ciampino Airport into Rome's Termini station.

A commuter train travels between Nettuno and Termini nearly every hour. The number of trains is slightly reduced on Sundays. The trip takes an hour and a few minutes. Most of the trains from Rome to Nettuno leave Termini 42 minute past most hours. They usually leave Nettuno headed back to Rome a few minutes after most hours. The last train from Rome to Nettuno leaves Termini at about 9:42 pm.

The doorbell is marked "Pagliuca/McIntire". The apartment is on the second floor. Steep steps, no elevator. Our hall light switch is just inside the main door. The same hall lights can be turned on from inside the apartment by pushing the toggle switch to the left of the front door. In both cases, the lights will switch off automatically after about 90 seconds.

There are two emergency lock-boxes: one outside the entrance to the building, the other on the front door of the apartment. Should you need these combinations, contact me or Leidy.

  • We hope you found some basic supplies, toilet paper, soap, salt/pepper etc. Please consider the folks who will stay in the apartment after you.
  • Do not leave perishable leftovers.
  • Please respect our no smoking rule in the apartment.

Garbage disposal:

Nettuno recycles plastic, metals, glass, paper, organic, and undifferentiated. The public bins are on the far corner of Piazza Mazzini - beyond the fountain of Netuno. Use the TEKNEKO card (hanging near the door) to operate the bins. The undifferentiated bin only works on Thursdays.

Emergencies:

Doctor: Dr. Marco Cianfoni has office only a few doors away (Piazza Marconi 14). He speaks some English. House call E.20. Tel 06.980.5373. His office hours are posted on the door. Ambulance: Dial 118 from any phone.

Where to eat?

The extraordinary thing about Nettuno is that within a very small radius you will be able to find practically anything you might need or desire! Best pizza in town: Paulo's Pizzeria del'Archetto. A small pizzeria on the neighbring Piazza Colonna. Our favorite restaurant in Piazza Colonna: "MaTe" (run by our friends Romoaldo, Francesco, and Selene).

Also, try the Marchiaronda, pizza by-the-slice.
On our Piazza: Trattoria del Borgo Antico (Gianluca) and "Zero Miglia".

Laundry/dry cleaning: Academia del Pulito, Via Cavour 71. Self-service or leave there.

Things to do in and around Nettuno:

  • Walk around the historic center, the port, buy an ice cream or a crepe.
  • Visit the Forte Sangallo which often has free cultural events.
  • Go diving with Andrea's "Namaka" which docks right below the apartment.
  • Visit the American Cemetery (in Nettuno) and theBritish cemetery and war museum is (in Anzio) - stark reminders of the devastation of World War II.
  • Visit the Archaeological Museum on Anzio. Small but very interesting.
  • On Thursday mornings there is a large open produce and clothing market on the road in front of the American cemetery.
  • Take an afternoon walk to Anzio and try out the port-side restaurants.
  • From Anzio, take the early boat to the Pontine islands, with their turquoise waters, tiny vineyards, wild herbs and flowers. The island is full of grottoes and secluded beaches.
  • If you have a car, go to nearby towns across the valley in the hills; visit Cori, and take the scenic mountain road from Cori to Norma. Visit the cyclopic walls and Roman site of Norba. The gardens of Ninfa below are a botanical delight set in a medieval environment! The mountain towns (eg Sermonetta) often have outdoor summer concerts in beautiful castles. Or go further south to Terracina, or Sperlonga!
  • There are tennis courts a little way out of town. Also, there is a golf course in Aprilia.
  • Rome is just an hour+ away. I won't even try to make suggestions for Rome: it is AMAZING!! Be careful on crowded buses. Because of its appealing route, tourists become easy targets for professional pickpockets!
The best way to see Rome is on foot.
